FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

BSBOHS407A COURSE FAQ’S

1. How long does the course take to complete and how long should I spend on each of the 6 Unit Elements?

Per the AQTF (Australian Quality Training Framework) requirements this course takes 6-8 hours to complete i.e. approximately an hour or so per Unit Element.

2. How long will the course be available to participate in?

The course is available initially for 2 months for WorkCover reporting requirements. The course may continue after that.

3. Do I still have to do all the learning and work activities if I have already completed non accredited OHS training?

No if you believe that your prior knowledge & experience meets the course Performance Criteria you can complete the Assessment Quiz for all 6 Unit Elements and submit a Third Party Reference to confirm. This is known as recognised prior learning (RPL).

4. How do you know that I fall in this RPL category and not just lazy?

The course assessor & trainer is able to see all activities you undertake. They can see if you have gone through the learning guides and work activities. If you haven’t then they will require a Third Party Reference and you will be deemed an RPL candidate.

5. What’s a Third Party Reference, who can complete it for me and how do I submit it?

The Third Party Reference is a template that you download that requires either an industry colleague or supervisor to complete. It contains a number of statements that are aligned with the performance criteria (the required course knowledge & skills) that your referee will initial in the appropriate boxes. If they can’t complete all statements they can just leave blank. You may like to submit more then one reference. You can scan the Third party Reference and email back to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or send the hard copy to Peter Wasson, OHS Media RTO, 30/2 Bridge Road Stanmore NSW 2048.

6. Do I have to complete the Your Production OHS Experiences & Video Case Study Activities for each Unit?

These are designed as activities contained in the Learning Guide for you to work through to demonstrate your work place application of the knowledge & skills for that particular unit sub-element. You must record these in Your Journal on-line. These are not assessable but you should take the opportunity to record your responses as these are part of the learning experience.

The video case studies are designed as part of the learning materials and to reinforce and demonstrate how the industry is implementing the course OHS knowledge & skills.

7. How do I know that I have passed and achieved my certification?

To pass the course and achieve certification you need to achieve an 75% score or above for each of the 6 Unit Elements.

8. What happens if I get less then the required 85% score for each unit element?

You have 6 opportunities to complete the assessment quiz for each of the 6 unit elements. You will be advised your score each time you attempt the quiz but not which ones you got right or wrong. After 6 attempts in getting less then 75% you will be contacted by email from the course trainer & assessor Peter Wasson who will discuss and assist you. You will have a further opportunity to complete the assessment Quiz.

9. What if I have a question or need assistance?

You can post your question on the forum for each of the 6 Unit Elements and the course trainer & assessor will respond. In addition you have the opportunity to have a one on one chat with the course trainer & assessor and/or other participants in the live tutorial chatroom.
