OHS Management System (OHSMS) Resource & Training Program

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

Welcome to the Communications Council OHS Management System (OHSMS) Resource & Training Program funded under the WorkCover Assist Program.

The OHMS resource & training is designed to assist Communication Council members and the industry meet their compliance requirements and the continuous improvement of workplace safety through best practice systems management under the current NSW’s OHS Act 2000 and OHS Regulation 2001; and the new national work health & safety laws to take affect from January 2012 that NSW is working towards.

The OHSMS resource & training is being developed by OHS Media Services under an industry mentor program utlising the successful experiences of TalentPay and Saatchi & Saatchi.

OHS Media Services are experienced in developing OHS management systems and training for advertising, communications & media companies.

TalentPpay compliance experts in performer employment for advertising agencies has developed and successfully operated under an ISO 9000:2007 ISO Quality Management system and an AS4801:2007 Safety Management system. TalentPay won the highly commanded award for best OHS Management System at the 2008 WorkCover NSW Safety Awards.

Saatchi & Saatchi a leading advertising agency has a demonstrated continuous improvement approach to their systematic management of occupational health & safety.   

These combined mentor experiences will ensure that the OHSMS resource & training meets the requirements of the Communication Council membership and the industry.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

To provide participants with the knowledge, skills and tools to assist the agency establish and maintain a quality OHS management system to OHS legislative requirements and Australian standard AS4801 – Safety Management systems.

Agencies will have the ability through the program to develop & implement management systems that demonstrate senior management commitment & resourcing, OHS objectives and plans, consultation, risk management, OHS training & inductions, record keeping, incident notification, injury management and measurement & evaluation.  

The program is designed to assist agencies that have no systematic OHS management procedures in place and for those that do to be able to audit and improve their current systems to industry best practice.

PARTICIPANT & AGENCY OUTCOMES

•    Develop and implement a coordinated and systematic approach to managing health and safety risks to demonstrate compliance under the OHS legislation
•    Trained personnel for the on-going management and application of the agency OHS management system and conducting OHS training and induction programs
•    Ensure safe workplaces and safe work procedures contributing to the improvement of the health, safety & welfare of all people engaged at agency workplaces through systematic management

PARTICIPANTS

All Communications Council members should participate in the program particularly those agencies that have an accreditation manager under the Communications Council Professional Development program. However the program is not limited to Agency Accreditation members and is open to all members and their personnel.

PROGRAM STAGES

The program consists of the following stages. Please note that Stage 1 registration & OHSMS audit tool is now open for participants to commence. Stage 2 is currently under development including assessment & approval by WorkCover. We envisage Stage 2 the on-line OHSMS Manual Resource & Training to be ready in May.

Stage 1: Registration & completion of OHSMS audit tool

To participate in the program you must complete the on-line registration and complete the OHSMS audit tool.

The OHSMS audit tool will help in evaluating your Agency, Communication or Media company’s safety compliance and safe system of work (OHS Management System) against WorkCover’s 6 OHS system benchmarks; whether there are any compliance gaps; and what improvement action may be required.

Stage 2: OHSMS Resource manual and on-line training & assistance

You will be able to use the mentor OHSMS resource and accompanying training to address system gaps and implement improvement action based on your OHSMS audit tool results.

You will be able to download a copy of the OHSMS resource Manual and participate in the training activities that is supported by video case studies with the program mentors. In addition you will be able to get feed back and assistance on-line from the resource developer and trainer.

Stage 3: Program evaluation

At the conclusion of the program you will be required to complete an on-line program evaluation survey.
